Strawberries and Soil and Spinach -- oh my!

Today was a beautiful day, and a busy one! We built a free-form raised bed out of burlap, filled it with beautiful soil and vermicompost, and planted strawberries in it! (Thanks to Sarah at Walker Jones Farm for her generous donation of the dozen strawberry plants. We hope she comes to visit one day.)

We took soil samples of our garden space! Once the dozen or so samples dry out a bit, we'll mail them off to the lab for testing so we know ways we might need to amend the soil to help our veggies grow.

We planted spinach seeds in between the garlic in one of our raised beds. (Here the ladies are removing some of the mulch before planting...which we later used to mulch our newly planted strawberry beds. See Chris in the background, diligently taking a soil sample?)

We made delicious black bean hummus! (Recipe to be posted soon....)

We added food scraps to our compost bin out in the garden! And all of this before dinnertime. Amazing. But that's what the members of the Eco-Friendly Group are: AMAZING.
